So why Spinster in the City?

I had to apply for my Visa to go to HK, the marital status section had limited choices:

Married

Divorced

Widowed

Bachelor/Spinster

According to HK, I am a Spinster, even though I am only 25. I thought the word spinster was reserved for old women who never married?! Thank you HK for this wonderful self-esteem boost. I am glad to know that I am an Old Maid. They could save significant space on the form by just using the term "Single."

Just for reference, the definition is "an unmarried woman and especially one past the common age for marrying" and "a woman who seems unlikely to marry" the historic definition must be what they are referring to " an unmarried woman of gentle family."

So for all of my friends, welcome to the life of being a spinster, I am glad to know that it is all of us and not just me!
