"Writer's Block"

So I guess I have a lot of updating to do - so I will start from where I left off.

January 18, 2009 -

Today I bought a phone! I now have a HK phone number and the ability to call the states courtesy of my refillable SIM card (sold/refilled all over the place). This is a brilliant plan and I am not sure why the US does not do something similar.

Afterward I made a few phone calls and walked from Wanchai to Victoria Park in Causeway bay and shortly thereafter I boarded the Tram. The Tram is really what we would call a trolley except it is 2 stories and skinny so it looks like an anorexic double decker bus. My fair warning is to watch your head if you are 5'10 or taller. I took the Hong Kong Tramway around the island, the beauty is it costs $2 and you can ride as long as you would like. First, I rode East as far as it goes - Shau Kei Wan where I saw the intertwined trees as I walked to towards the Wholesale Fish Market and the Coastal Defense Museum. I did not go to either of these, but located them for potential future visits. This walk also took me by some dockyards where I think they are building small ships.

I walked back to the Tram and took it West to the Western Market. I briefly walked through the market and then past many apothecary storefronts and storefronts that seem to specialize in birds nests. One of the HK specialties is Bird's Nest Soup, I have not eaten this yet but am sure I will before I leave.

I walked from the Western Market back to Wanchai and then went to Taste, my local grocer, and got something from the bakery. I brought them back with me and sat on the rooftop deck reading & snacking until sunset.

There were a few photos added to album Hong Kong - 1 from this day.
