Today I met up with my hiking group and we went on a trail that was, in part, DIRT! Now if you have been reading you will note that every other trail I have been on is concrete, asphalt, stairs and that is about it - nature is all paved over. Although it was misty & chilly out it was a great day for a hike & the rain from the previous days made the trail all the more fun - we got both dirt and MUD!!!
We took my good friend, the # 6 bus to Wong Nei Chung Gap Road and from there hiked to the Tai Tam Reservoir. You many note by know that HK has a ton of Reservoirs, each with hiking trails around them. This reservoir is tucked into the Eastern part of HK Island, only a 15 minute bus trip from Central. According to SK, the leader, the name was derived from the Cantonese word Tai Tam which means big pools and the word suggests big reservoirs.
After we passed the Reservoir the dirt/mud/brooks begin. How wonderful. Then we came to the top of a hill and started to win our way along the outer cliff part of the hills with sweeping views of Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay on the South side of HK Island. I wish I would have had my camera as we passed over one of the brooks - the sign said - do not cross if the water level covers the bridge. There is only one problem - we could see the bottom of the brook (about 4 inches of water) and there was is no bridge. I hope no one is ever too literal there.
After the hike circled back to the Gap I walked down into Happy Vally & back to my Apartment at Wanchai.
I didn't take my camera, but here are a couple pics I received from other people after the hike.

Another picture of the Reservoir.
I could hardly believe my eyes or feet - DIRT!!!
And Mud

Good thing there are railings for safety - else there is a big cliff down into Repulse Bay.
